Also, if you ever want to scope a 92, they are the only ones who have a base mount for a long eye relief scope.

Is it just me or do those bases actually not fit very well? The bottom radius is wrong. Seems to be no correct fitting option ... I looked for a few days and found nothing. I pulled the base off of a new Rossi and there was a huge gap and plenty of Locktite slathered about.

I'm looking for a file with the correct radius and will 'fix' the bases I have. I'm not in a hurry as I prefer open or tang/peep sights but the wife insists on a scope.

My mistake. Rossi Trifecta Jr rifle has the problem with scope bases.

I suggest an older Marlin 1894. Or it looks like they are making the 1894 Deluxe again. If you don't like that wood I don't know what to tell you.

sounds to me like you want one of the Cimarron/Uberti 1873 clones.
pretty much meets all your criteria;
nice wood, IMHO
color case hardened available
& available in 45 colt

price would be the only think that might hold you back, but IMHO they are worth it.

What is the collected wisdom regarding the Browning BLR? I have a chance to buy one in 30 06 with nice German glass? And for the OP the wood looks like it has about 10,000 coats of high gloss lacquer.

BLR is a hybrid of sorts. In a way it's a mix of modern bolt action design with the retro lever action. It has detachable magazine instead of the old fashioned tubular magazine and feeds differently.

Those look awful nice too and I like that they have so many options like barrel type, length, chambering, etc.

OP, I have a couple Rossi lever guns. If your looking for nice wood, pass these up, they are not walnut. They do make some after market walnut stocks for the Rossi's but they need to be fitted and finished..good luck, these are way too much fun

Those are very nice and exactly what I'm looking for. Just wish they had one chambered in .44 mag, but I can live with 45LC. Just have to buy some brass and dies.

The 92 action is very smooth and lighter and much more compact than the 73's. I have a highly tuned 1866 saddle ring carbine from Uberti in 38spl. Just love shooting as it's shooth as butter with the action work and shortened toggle action.

Don't rule out the Henry Big Boy. I have one in .357/.38 and it is just excellent. I am amazed at the accuracy and fun factor. Great mechanics and just gets better every time I shoot it.

Like it has been said earlier, an older 1894 Marlin. I have one in 41 mag and it is smooth and accurate, made in the early 1980s. Holds about ten rounds of ammo. The cross bolt safety never bothered me at all.

They do make one in 44 mag but as far as I know it is only available in a blued finish. They are pretty scarce though. 44-40 (44WCF) was the cartridge that gun was designed for and is the coolest one in my opinion.

My buddy has one in the Golden Boy, and while it is dead-nuts accurate shooting a .357 round... it is all over the place with the .38 special.

I LOVE that lever though.
