Opinions on quick release scope mounts

So I am looking for opinions on quick release scope mounts. Here is the scenario. I am relatively new to the world of rifle shooting (within the last two years), and have evolved from AR's to bolt guns. I just got into hunting last year and am hooked and now want to purchase two rifles. I have decided on a savage 7mm, and a .308 (FCP-K). Both will have the accu stock so I can get familiar with the same platform basically. My thoughts are to install a picatinny rail on both and purchase good glass to be used between the two. I'm leaning towards the viper pst 6-24x50. I'm wondering if the viper quick release scope mount with the 2" offset would be a good choice. Obviously I would get it sighted in on both rifles so I can easily adjust the scope to zero for each. The .308 is mostly going to be used for range shooting but maybe the occasional hunt if it presents itself (smaller game). Any thoughts would help. Thanks.

The Savage has scope bases..just need some low pro rings to mount a scope.

Check out Redfield, Nikon, or Mueller.

Hustler - I hunt and do.not recommend what you are saying. You will have to rezero each time you switch the scope. Plus a 6x minimum is generally too high for big game. Get the lowest rings that you can with the scope you choose. If I were you I would get matching 3x9x40 or 4x12.

One scope for two different rifles? Not what I would do. If anything, get two pieces of glass for the same rifle. Sight one in for your hunting load and the one in for your target load. I did this with a rifle years ago and it worked out beautifully. I had a 4X and a 12X with Weaver detachable mounts. One I used for deer hunting, the other for shooting ground hogs.

The two cartridges you mentioned, assuming the first is a 7mm Rem Mag, are very similar ballistically and both have and continue to be used to take most every animal on our continent.

Target shooting and hunting are two entirely different games. The former tends to have heavier rifles designed to fire a lot of rounds in a relatively short period of time. The later rifles tend to be much lighter and intended to deliver 1 or 2 shots, and then work begins, depending on what your hunting. I doubt there are many who would enjoy packing a target rifle on a hunting trip.

I recently saw a scope that has multiple zero points. You can zero it on one rifle, put it on another and zero that one, then go back to the first one and reset the zero without any range time. Also has some other interesting features. I haven't tried it, as money is a bit tight right now, and know nothing about it other than the website.

If you think your going to hunt with a fcp-k your fooling yourself.
I have one. I bench shoot with it. Its too heavy to go hiking into the woods with.
I guess its how far you hike in to hunt.

Buy a cheap light weight gun for your hunting needs. Most of the major manufacturers even have packages that include a scope. Use that gun to beat around the bushes. Save the heavy barrel guns for varmint/target shooting.

Thank you for the responses. I feel like I threw some guys off with mentioning the heavy barreled .308 as possibly hunting with if the situation arose. I am not at all trying to compare target shooting with hunting. If I ever did it would be in a stand of some sort or where I had a short hike and planned on playing the waiting. By no means a primary brush beater. My thoughts were to utilize a $1000 optic on two rifles instead of spending money twice. Vortex offers custom turrets that would make getting the scope zeroed for each rifle easier I thought. Like I stated earlier I'm new to the game and will go the suggested rout and head the direction of a perrminate scope for each riffle. Thanks again guys.

Hustle - you.don't need.two $1k scopes. Ones in the $300-$500 range will last you forever. Ignore the.multiple periods. I hate.this kindle.

Honestly you will use binoculars a lot more than a scope so don't blow your whole wad on scopes.

10-4 on that. I couldn't justify spending $1k on two different scopes anyway lol. Agreed on the binocs. I learned that the hard way on my hunting trip to Montana this last November. I went and bought myself some nice ones the week after I got back. Early Xmas gift to myself.

I use Talley QR rings on my 375 H&H with a Leupold 2.5-8X and Warne QR rings on my 458 Win Mag with a Leupold 1-4X.

Get Davidson bases with the dovetail and matching rings from Sinclair.Loosen up four allen screws and slide that one scope on 10 rifles without any issues at all.I do it all the time.

I really like Warne steel QR's. I used them on my own savage while I had it and will not likely purchase alternative rings in the future.
