    MVP Patrol in Jail

Monday I finally put the money down on a Mossberg MVP Patrol 556/223. I was going to wait for the 308, but I really liked the idea of the AR magazines. Anyone have experience or advice on the Patrol?
I can't wait to shoot this rifle.

Sounds awesome, make sure to do a report on here. I've wanted one ever since it was announced, but haven't found a good window of opportunity to get one yet (busy and funds being frozen by other projects).

Will do Gorenut. I've been buying different brands of 223 and 5.56 ammo to see what it will take.

My scope mount came loose. I'd take out the screws and Loctite it before you mount the scope and shoot it.

Sparks congrats. I'm looking at getting one around March. But I may lap the lugs on the bolt to smooth thing out. Other than that I like the rifle.

Heads up >>>>>> make sure you check the bolt function before you leave the store. Current bolts and receivers are f'd up. My good friend bought two MVP's in the last 4 weeks and both have out-of-spec bolts/receivers.

Both bolts are catching on the left side of the bottom cut out in the receiver. I wouldn't buy one without inspecting it first. Be warned!

Gunsmith told me to use nail polish. Holds the bolt but you can unscrew it without drama.

Take out the screws, clean screws and screw holes with acetone/lacquer thinner, and reinstall with Blue 242 Locktite.

I bought one a while back. its a fun gun and accurate. I just use mine for when I go out to the desert . The biggest thing that sold me on it was the fact that it took ar mags and I had a extra flash hider laying around that I threw on.

My bolt is catching too. I won the gun at an NRA dinner, so it's not like I was going to turn it down. Have you heard of any fixes for that? Mine's the Predator, but I doubt it matters.

I just got an MVP Varmint in September, it was hanging up on closing on the right side where the extractor cut is, I stoned the sharp edges a little on the front of both sides of extractor cut & it hasn't hung up since. I think it was happening because of the sloppy bolt fit. I can live with the sloppy bolt but not the hang up.

I haven't studied it enough to suggest a fix just yet. My friend has two that are doing the same thing so it's just a matter of time before he bugs me enough for me to fix them.

Both of his catch on the left side. I'm hesitant to round off any edges as it could cause the bolt to lift up and bind even more. Without further study I'm thinking it might help if the slot or groove in the receiver was flared at the rear to "funnel" the bolt into the groove without it jumping the "rail" and causing it to bind.

I looked at mine again and can't see anything on the left side for it to catch on.

There is a channel in the Bottom to guide the silver color squarish thing that projects from the underside of the bolt. It's this silver block that catches on the rear left side of the channel. I'll have to look at the schematic to put a name to the part.
