Best Used .308/30-06/.270 Rifle Under $500

I am thinking about getting a bolt gun for deer/pig hunting and target practice. I don't need a "1000 yard sniper rifle" that does 1/4" groups. But I don't want to buy anything junky as well.

So far, I have found a Savage with an accutrigger for $400 but that went quick. I also found a Smith & Wesson I-Bolt and a Mossberg ATR-100. The I-Bolt comes with an awesome trigger from what everybody says and it has a built in rail on top. Of course, the Mossberg comes with good reviews as well.

I would love to find one with a scope attached to it but I might just be wishfull thinking, but it doesn't hurt to see. A good trigger would be more desirable though. What do you guys think would be a good choice on a used rifle?

The three you mentioned are all good choices.

There is no best. I would skip the S&W though.

The Mossberg is a very good choice. If you're inclined to buy something older & used a Remington 788 is a very good entry level rifle with excellent accuracy. There are still plenty of them around.

I was almost sold on the S&W since it has a free float barrel, Timney trigger and a Thompson Center barrel. I found one for $420 including dros and shipping.

Keep your eyes on the long gun sales section. I got a 7mm Rem Mag Savage 111 w/scope 120+ rounds of ammo a bipod and Bore Snake for $300. Had less than 20 rounds through it.

You're not gonna get the "best" for $500 but it will certainly do nicely,
surely only you know what's best for you?

Check out the Savage Trophy Hunter xp. It comes with the nice user adjustable accutrigger and a decent Nikon Prostaff 3-9x-40 scope, for under $500.
For hunting and shooting paper at the range it's perfect. I have the same package gun in .270 and it easily shoots under an inch at 100 yards.
Any one of the calibers you have listed would be great choices but I've noticed 30.06 and .270 ammo are more readily available.

                              Browning lever action .284 Win

How about a Browning Model 81 in .284 Win with a Simmons 3.5x10 and 2boxes of ammo for $590?
