Remington 700 Milspec 5R, Range Report.

Went to Angeles today to break in my 5R, and I was quite pleased. 3 shots and I was dialed in. On top of the 700 sits a Swarovski 3x10x42 Z3 with the BRH reticle. The rail is a Night Force 20 MOA Picatinny.
155 grain Nosler Custom Competition, Lapua Brass, 210M primer and 42.5 of 4064.OAL was 2.800. First group out of the cold clean barrel was a nice 1.11 inches at 100 yards. Follow up 5 shot groups shrank to .63 and .69 respectively.
175 grain SMK, on top of 41.5 of H4895 , Lapua brass and Winchester LRP OAL of 2.815. Barrel was cleaned and allowed to cool. I had never shot a 3 shot group like this before, but it was .56 with 2 shots going through the same hole. I could not believe it. Made for an interesting day of shooting. A2

I passed up on the AAC last week and made my final decision to go with the 5R. Sounds like everyone has nothing but good things to say about this rifle. Post some pictures soon.

I get my R700 milspec 5r out of jail tomorrow. I have the optic ready to install with a Vortex PST 6.5x24-50 scope sitting on a 20 moa Badger mount. I’ll have to get it all together but I should be ready for the range by the end of the week. If you could post some pics, I would be grateful and happy to see what other people are doing with their 5r. BTW nice shooting.

I love mine! Incredibly accurate. similar experience to yours. I used a badger 20moa base with a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 6.5-20x50

man I LOVE hearing stories like this, makes me want to just buy a 5R and scrap my LTR...

I have a 1st year LTR in .223 Remmy. Using Fiocchi 50gr VMAX ammo the rifle shoots just like range report - one hole groups. This rifle forced me to quit rifles for awhile because days at the range were so boring. The LTR with this ammo would make 3/8" groups and frequently "hole in a hole". My old mid-90's Browning A-bolt II with the 40gr version of this ammo is the same.

My son and I take these rifles out and play darts or battleship with those new fun gaming targets.
