I think the Savage Hog Hunter in .308 is a great rifle at a very decent price.
$535 and it has an accu trigger.

I have a Ruger American in .308 and it is a fine mtn rifle for just under 400$ not including dros/votrtex scope. It is really light which is nice when climbing or just hiking long distance. I took a deer with it this past season and it shot exactly where I aimed it at 100 yds. It blew out the heart. I have only been able to get 1.5 inches at 100 yds on paper but my bro sighted it in and got 1 inch (Barnes) although imo you don't need more than 2" @100 for a hunting rifle.

For a sporter barrel, plinking is impressive. Unless you're talking about taking your time....

I also have the Ruger American in .308 and using a redfield revolution scope.

im able to get 2-3" groups at 300 yards at lytle creek, I love the rifle but yes if your main use is target practice the barrel heats up fast.

ive taken a few hogs with this rifle as well as a buck last season

Look at the Weatherby Vanguard instead. Guaranteed under 1 MOA accuracy. Does the Ruger 'merican guarantee the same????

+1 for the Weatherby Vanguard

I like the Ruger American as they are tough basic rifles for about $350. This rifle is very nose heavy, and not well balanced by a good margin. I'd buy one if I had a farm or ranch and needed a rifle to bounce around the cab of the truck or tractor.

The Weatherby Vanguard feels much better and balanced, and the stock is significantly more ergonomic.

There are a few shops around that stock both. Handle both and let us know what you think.

Ive shot the ruger in 270 and was pretty impressed with it. Shooting it alongside my Tikka I'm still glad I went the way I did, but they're not exactly in the same price range.

I have one in .243.....yep, pretty darn accurate for a "budget" gun.
Whole family loves to shoot it. Has a Crossfire ll scope.
