    Weatherby Vanguard Series 2

I've never had a bolt action rifle before, wife and I are planning to drive to Weatherby's office in a couple of week's time to check out some guns and I want to find out what's the general opinion on their Vanguard Series 2 like.

Search on the internet turns up mostly good reviews. Oddly enough, not many posts about Weatherby bolt action rifles here except in the "for sale" forum.

I'm thinking of getting one chambered for .223 rem just for punching paper targets up to 100 yards (the max range I have easy access to, there are 200 yards range at Metcalf but they're only open on certain days). I'm more of a shotgun/clay shooting kind of guy (main reason for the drive to Weatherby office is to check fit and mount of their shotgun for my wife), the bolt gun will mostly be a range toy.

    Thanks.

Very good rifles from all accounts I've ever read. And I read a LOT. LOL.

At their price point i think they are in the top two or three, a lot of after market upgrades available. If i were to buy another bolt action in the $500.- range it would be my choice.

Thanks for the info, I'll go handle one and if it feels nice I might just order one.

Vanguard and Tikka are my 2 favorite rifles nowdays. I still like the old Tang Safety Rugers which are no longer made. But truth is the Vanguard is as good and better. Only wish they would use a 26" barrel on the ones chambered for 257Weatherby. Mine could really use that extra barrel.

A great rifle for the price, if you're somewhat handy and knowledgeable in gunsmithing, floating the barrel and bedding the action with REALLY shrink your groups with these rifles, great barrels and actions. The cost savings come in the stocks. Mine is an absolute tack driver in .22-250

Weatherby office? Do they even have guns you can play with? It seems like it would be a lot easier to just go to Reed's or some other local store.
