Okay so i bought a Savage Model 11 in .300 Winmag and I currently have a 3-9x optics scope on it. I am looking into purchasing a scope that has approximately 16-20x power but dont want to spend an s*** load of money on it. Anyone know of anything decent in the $300-$400 price range. Thanks!

Go to grabagun.com and look around. Great prices. I ended up with a bushnell elite.sigpic -

You mean you want a scope with a top end of 16-20 right? If its a hunting gun and your trying to spot a deer at 20 power, you'll have a hard time lol.Comment

If it is a hunting rifle keep what you have or get someting in the same power zone.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40SF. Comes with choice of reticle, Target knobs, & good warranty.
Love this scope -It's not a World War until France surrenders.

Nikon is good. I like them from expierience with high end cameras, high end microscopes, and rifle scopes.
Just remember, good glass costs; there is no replacement for that. At the magnification range you ask for, beware of the image darkening at high power, and the edges of image being soft.Comment

That price point will get you a Leupold VX-1 4-12x40mm, LR Duplex Reticle at $319.99 from Natchez Shooters Supply online. Plus shipping of course. This is the scope I'm putting on my new Savage in 7mm Rem. Mag..Comment

I have a Vortex Crossfire II. 6-18x44 MOA/BDC Retical and AO. It's pretty damn clear glass and it's under $250.Comment

Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 is in the low 400 range. I own it on a 24" .308 and it is a very capable scope with a fantastic warranty.Comment

Not to highjack the thread, but if he has a 3-9X40 hunting scope will a different scope fit his rifle as long as it is a X40? Maybe a 3-12X40 or a 6.5-20X40
Of course, as long as the rings are the same size. Would the scope be physically the same size, just a stronger power?Comment

IMHO: I have the bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x 42mm side focus. I love this scope, I have 2 on my hunting rifles (375, 30-06). They are perfect for long action rifles. These are very under rated optics.Comment
