Fun on BLM with the fam

Took the wife and kids out to Tumney hills today. It was our first time out there so we went and did some exploring and then shooting. It deffently needs some clean up work at the main area. Maybe we (Cal Guns) can get out and organize a clean up day after the 1st. We did meet a ranger today as well. Super nice guy, gave me a map of the area, and we talked a bit. He told us he busted a guy with a 50 round mag a few weeks back

My goal for the next trip is to have some metal targets made that can be easily carried out to distance. Do you guys have any tips on making a cheap hanging steel target?

Here's a couple of pics my wife took. She also took a video of me shooting a cast iron pan that was hung up at 300 yards. Listen and you can hear I hit it on shot #3.

If you want to organize something I'd be game, if it's not too far out. Seems like that's probably one of the closest legal shooting spots to where I'm at, how bad is the drive from Fresno? I'm down near Visalia.

It's almost exactly an hour from Fresno

I agree the main area could use some trash removal and some calguns advertisement as well. I'd be down to come clean up as well.

Obama ended the gun control debate when he decided to arm the Syrian rebels with fully automatic machine guns and rocket launchers. He proved people need guns to protect themselves from tyranny. Did he give the rebels background checks before giving them real assault weapons?

I have a 5x8 trailer that I can tow out there for trash removal. If everyone chips in a few bucks foe the dump fee, I'll gladly tow it and dump it.

I say after the 1st thinking that most of us are pretty busy with the holidays until then. I"ll def get something together if people are willing to help.

Where did you get the camo tarp? Is it canvas or PVC? For a metal target, you could hang an empty outdated propane tank on a chain off a saw horse or home made tripod. Make sure it's empty.

The tarp is from Harbor Freight. But like medic said you can also get em at the Wal Mart. Is a PVC, I also most brought my canvas paint drop cloths lol.

We've done the propane can for handguns before and it is a ton of fun. I'm looking more for a long range rifle target.

This is probably the wrong section for this, but I for one would be interested in going to shoot on BLM with a group. I live in Ripon.

For targets, keep an eye on woot.com in the sports section. They pop up frequently and are at huge discounts.

I scored a few like the self resetting body target for 9mm-30-06 for $30.

Awesome! I took my boys (11 & 7) out for the first time today, my best range trip ever

That's a good time! Can't wait until my kids get old enough to come out with me to do some plinking.

I've been trying to get down there for a while, but prefer to go with other people and not alone (especially if I have guns with me.)
I'd definitely be in to go down for some shooting and clean-up.
                        Hopefully something can be arranged.

Target wise, it depends on how complicated you want it to get. The easiest and lightest would be to use a shepherds hook and hang a steel plate from it (AR500 recommended).

Complicated - the sky is the limit. The bigger and heavier the target, the slightly more sophisticated your mounting setup will be.

                          Washers
                          Nuts
At the range I had 4 clay holders on top instead of the paper.

This is probably overkill in some regards, but I don't know how to weld or I would make it all out of re-bar. I have to make it all easily portable in my hatchback, so I use what is available.

That HF Sawhorse looks awesome, I think I'll have to get a couple of those for my steel plates.
