Surplus 7.62x54r in lead core. Does it exist?

Love shooting my Mosin, but steel core puts serious limitations as to where I can shoot. Is there surplus available in lead core? I know Brown Bear and such have lead core, but it rings up closer to $1/round rather than the $0.20/round of surplus

Yes. Only reason a magnet will stick to a bullet is if it has a steel core.

            YOU WILL NEED:

            &

and .308 bullets. if you're looking for precision this is not the way to go but range time it works.

Yugo surplus heavy ball is non-magnetic and there is very uncommon Russian surplus match ammo that is also non-magnetic. However, both are very hard to find. If you do not reload, your best bet is PPU commercial ammo.

Long are gone of the days of surplus lead core. They were 1950's manufacture I think. It was sold in the old looking cans long ago at your common ammo sites.

In addition to the 7.62x54r, the 7.62x39, 7.7 Japanese and the .303 British use .311-.312 bullets. This means that reloaders who do not have to worry about steel core bullets can disassemble cheap 7.62x54r and use the bullets (and if you know how to work up a load, the powder) to reload .303 British or 7.7 Japanese. This is how I feed my SMLE.

                        Yes it exist

I have lead core non magnetic SURPLUS. They are match grade for Russian Target Sport.

I also have Lead core bi metal jacket Surplus match grade.

Those are not cheap by all means even though they are Surplus they are expensive because they are match grade.

The Yugo stuff is pretty awesome and has no steel in it. But it is very pricey these days, almost the price of buying new manufacture PPU.
