Anyone heard/seen any comparisons? I like some features about the Ruger, particularly the SS version but they are pricey. Looking for basically a 308 Ranch Rifle type weapon, something you could toss in the truck and not worry about too much. Not really looking for a scout rifle, but a detachable mag bolt action with reasonably compact dimensions.

Ruger GSR vs Mossberg MVP Patrol .308

I almost bought a GSR, but plan to get a Tikka T3 Lite SS in .308 for the same role. Will probably get the barrel trimmed/threaded to 20" also. Should be about $650 or so for the Tikka. Plus, there are options to upgrade the stock and add a CDI DBM if you want. -
Howa makes a compact .308 also and they have a DBM system of their own. No iron sights though.

Thanks all. I have seen the Howa too. Hairball, thanks for the input. I actually had put a deposit on a GSR in May of 2011. I finally cancelled it a month ago and used it to buy another rifle. The price was decent enough but the dealer just couldn't get any allocated. I saw Turners had them on sale for $899; that's still a little pricey for me.Jesus Saves!Comment

I just bought a Tikka T3 lite in .223, having purchased a Tikka Sporter in .308 last year. If I like the new one half as much as the Sporter, I'll be extremely happy.
I WOULD have been interested in the Mossberg but they don't think that left-handers are worth their time.
And I did consider the Ruger GSR before buying the Sporter (since they both come in LH) but couldn't resist the Tikka laminated stock. It's a bit of a heavy beast though so buyer beware. But I'm not much of a hunter.
