    Name That Cartridge

So a friend needs some brass for an obsolete cartridge so I'm helping him out.
Just finished the first case and all went better than expected
Used my Rong-Fu Mill, would be a lot quicker using a Lathe but alas I do not have a Lathe
    Parent case is 30-30 Winchester
    But what is it ?

                  I've got $10 that says it's a 7-30...

...I have a neighbor with a lever gun in that caliber. He's old enough to have had it almost forever.

It was originally wild-catted to give 30-30 lever guns a cartridge that shoots flatter with more velocity.

It's not close to a 7-08 in power, but realize it was designed for a lever gun from the git-go and does work very well.

As a reference, check Ken Waters Pet Loads, last edition. It's on page 781 and the BW picture there is identical to the one in OP's post. The book is published by Harris Publications (they also publish Reloader magazine.

If you like to reload classic rifles and pistols, Pet Loads is a necessity, imo. More background than you can stand. It's available through Brownells. My copy looks as dog-eared as a 20 year old yellow pages. Tons of info on older as well as current cartridges, maybe excepting the short magnum family.

OP, if you or your bud need more info, I can copy and mail the info to you...there's an original story and 2 updates, maybe 10 or so pages total. Email me through here if you'd like.

What kind of rifle is your friend using??

                  Did I win??

According to my goolge-image fu, the 7-30 is a rimmed cartridge. It looks like the OP has turned the rim down to create a rimless cartridge.
No government deprives its citizens of rights without asserting that its actions are "reasonable" and "necessary" for high-sounding reasons such as "public safety."
A right that can be regulated is no right at all, only a temporary privilege dependent upon the good will of the very government
officials that such right is designed to constrain.

Correct on a 7-30 Waters having a rimmed case.
                      7-30 is just a necked down 30-30 to 7mm
