Scope for Remington 243 SPS Varmint

OK guys I need a little help. I have a Rem Varmint 243 on order and I'm looking for a quality scope. For this gun I wanted a practical scope to use for field shooting but not a big ungainly Nightforce that would be a pain to haul around. I'm thinking of something with about 8 or 10 power max but I still want an AO, target turrets and a robust design. I just don't want a super large pure target scope that is bigger than the gun and could only be used on the bench.
I'll be shooting at paper at 100 yards most of the time but I want to be able to go to 600 yards and have the ability to dial up to 1000 yards with a 20 moa base. Any ideas?

First scope that popped into my head...

Should be a nice fit if you came from using larger target scopes and don't want to give up too many features you are used to having.

If you don't want much magnification get an older vari-XII Leupold 4-12 with the AO.
I had one on a Remington 600 in 243 with a 26 inch Lilja barrel and it was a very sweet little deer rifle.
As they are the older model they run about $200-$250

I have a few Leupold variables, most with custom features but Leupold quality seems to be slipping. My last one had an objective bell that had a gap with exposed threads. The parallax seemed excessive. Sent it back and got it back the same way. I guess that beats Bushnell, they destroyed my cosmetically perfect irreplaceable scope and then sent me a broken used one (broken, as in broken into two pieces). Bad sting of luck lately.
