Does it have the scope base also mounted on the barrel? As in the pics below?

The rifle below is a 1953 30-06 National match M-70 set up for a Unertl target scope....

At the time of the pics I had removed the sight ladder and peep....to use the scope....

The correct Lyman sight would be a 48WH or 48WJS

    Poke'm with a stick!

SVT-40, that is one fine looking example!
There were three versions of that profile. The Target Model chambered in .243, 30/06, and .300 H&H , The National Match Rifle in 30/06, and the Bull Gun in 30/06 and .300 H&H.
Yours sold new in 1942 for $100, value now is $3200+.

Morfeeis, that is a fine rifle.

Please don't drill holes or make any mods to it in order to get optics on it. Lots of people would be thrilled to have that in their collection. Great find.

Thanks.. It is in excellent condition considering it's 60 years old, and most were really used in matches.........I bought it in 2007....The owner of a shop I frequented in Ca got it in trade, and knew I liked these older rifles... He thought the stock was a replacement aftermarket job...

Long story short $350.00 later she was mine.......Perfect bore, basically a "new" rifle.....

Thanks for all the help guys desert dog, if i cant get some modern glass on here without modding the rifle i'll sale it to someone who will treat it the way it deserves to be treated. That or stuff it in the safe.

right side right in front of the chamber

some sort of dovetail about three inches forward of the chamber

front sight, some of the blueing is gone in that area for some reason.

            Right side

            Another of the right side

            Left side

Next to a 16 inch barrel AR for size comparison.

No wisecracks about the carpet, my wife said i runied the carpet in this room so now it's my toy room. everything from gun cleaning, R/C cars and camping prep is done here.

I've got a prewar model 70 in the 45xxx serial range. It has a complete Scope mounted on it. I am away on business and will get a picture posted once I get home on Thursday. As previous posters mentioned DO NOT DRILL/TAP IT!!! it will reduce the value significantly. All model 70's mfd prior to 1947 have that same setup, front ring and left side of rear receiver bridge tapped. Should also have a clip-slot for stripper clips. Looks like a nice one!
