Lefty stock on right handed action rifle

I am lefty, Thinking to get a r700 sps, saw boyd has left handed stock for right handed action, the thumbhole stock looks good because bolt won't hit finger while cycling the rifle, anyone has experience with this type of setup? Thanks

Why not just purchase/build a LH rifle?

R700 sps only has LH verson in varmint model, no standard barrel version for LH, plus more likely i will use it in range only and shoot from a table.

I bought a boyds featherweight thumbhole for my G24(t). It works well for me a lefty. Of course I left the straight bolt handle to make the bolt easier.

So if you're mostly using it as a bench gun, why not get the SPS-V? The heavy barrel is perfect for target shooting.

Here's my SPS-V in the Boyds thumbhole. I love the stock. Yes I know its a right hander.

I guess for varmint, you need to choose bull barrel option from boyds? Right?

For 308, seems the only option for lefty on boyd is factory barrel, for both left and right handed action, lefty's option is very limited.

Quite common actually. Many actions were once only right hand so there has always been a market for left hand stocks that fit right hand actions.

Yeah seems you're right. That sucks. My son is left handed so I feel your pain.

Maybe call Boyds and see if they will custom make you a bull barrel left hand.

You need to check that info. They actually offer several sporters in the SPS line. I've got an SPS Compact LH in .243, bedded in a Boyd's Prairie Hunter stock. It is a slick, fast handling, and accurate rifle. Maybe a carbine with the 20" barrel!

The SPS Synthetic LH can be had in .270, .30-'06, and .300 Win Mag.

They only build these lefties around September-October every year, so you'd best make haste if you don't want to wait about a year!

If you're going to use it for targets at the range the #3 barrels on the Varmint models are probably your best bet. Throw away the crappy stocks and those guns will shoot.

Are you a true left shooter, or just left handed?

so far shooting is pretty much the only thing i only use my left hand (almost everything else i can do with both hands, including writing), ya, i am a true left shooter for now. but my right eye is my primary eye, i am thinking to change to right hand shooter, and that's why i am thinking to get a R700 with right handed action, in case i convert to right hand someday.....

since i have a lefty savage in 308 already, i plan to keep getting 308, and R700 varmint is the only lefty version in 308 R700 with standard barrel is the only right handed 308 (short action, factory barrel) has lefty stock on boyd

That is why I asked, as I am ambidextrous for basically everything. But seemed to be cross dominant in shooting. Felt comfortable left handed but was right eye dominant. So I started training right handed shooting to match my dominant eye. Now I can shoot either way with a rifle, working on it with the pistol as well.
