Mossberg Trophy Hunter .308?

Any opinions on the Mossberg Trophy Hunter .308? I handled one at my local Dick's and it seemed like quite a nice rifle for the price. Comes with a cheap 3x9 scope (I'll later swap it out) and seemed to cycle pretty smoothly. Feedback? Thanks y'all.

My opinion and that is all it is an opinion. Pass on it. For a few bucks more you can get a better rifle. The remington 700 is only 100-150 more depending if you open and account and if you get it on sale along with the coupons you get in the mail.

What I didn't like on the one I saw was that the bolt was real loose. I mean it wiggled like crazy. They also had the white lighting or something like that with a detachable mag.

The barrel wasn't centered in the forearm of the stock. It actually touched on one of the sides.

The scope was bad really bad I wish they would take it off and knock some of the price. I think the package for that was $349. For that price I'd start looking at the savage axis. Later if you get more money you can change out stocks from BOYD'S. They are also detachable magazines.

Again this is just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I know it's not the finest rifle, but it seems OK for the price. I've considered the Axis, good to know someone is making a wood stock for 'em.

Before I spent the money on a rem 700 I would buy a Tikka T-3 Lite in 308 or 7mm-08 or 260rem if it is for hunting and some target shooting. It is a lighter and very accurate.
I would also consider a Savage. Another very good rifle would be the Ruger American if you are wanting to save some money. Put a direct replacement Limbsaver recoil pad on the Tikka or Ruger if you do much bench shooting.

Then buy a Leupold 3X9X40 or 3.5X10X40 duplex reticle scope for it and sight it in 2.75" high at 100 yards and you are set for life.
