Rem 700 in 308 or Win

Looking for my first Remington 700 308 or winmag. First runner up is just the 700xps 308 tactical. My only doubts are ammo at this point. 308 shoots alot cheaper. Is there such a huge difference between winmag to have doubts like I'm having now?

      A 308 is stout, a 300WinMag is a friggenloudenboomer.

Well what is your intended use? Hunting and only shooting 20 rounds a year? Winmag. Target shooting and shooting 100 rounds in a weekend? 308

300 win mag barrel life is around 1200-1500 rounds.
308 barrel life is around 3000-4000 rounds.

300 win mag shooter shoulder life is about 10 rounds per day.
308 shooter shoulder life is about 60 rounds per day.

If it's your first... def go with the 308.

Longer barrel life as Randall stated, and the ammo will be cheaper and more available.

Not sure where you are, but where I live, there are not many ranges that would even let me stretch the legs of a 300 winmag.

300 Win Mag is around twice the cost per round as 308. Not to mention the rotator cuff surgery that you are going to need after shooting it for a year or 2. Haha. A 300 Win Mag is on my list of rifles to own but I am going to put a muzzle brake on it for sure.
