That might be what they go for on ebay.... but I find it really hard to believe they're worth that kind of money when I can get an aftermarket premium match grade for $250-350.

The last Bartlein group buy was for $300.. and those are pretty much THE BEST barrels available. At lot of brands are cheaper than that and still premium matchgrade aftermarket brands..

          $80 is a fair price.

Wow so I take it its not that great of a barrel huh. I think new standard 700 barrels cost more than that.

Used market pricing is significantly different than MSRP.
The stainless Remington 5r barrels are more accurate than any of the Remington chromoly barrels.

Take-off chromoly Remington barrels are worth about $50.

I would say it's worth the most you can get for it if you're selling it. Remember easier to drop price than it is to raise it. If buying you would have to figure what it's worth to you compared to just buying a new barrel.

i'm building a rifle. contemplating on starting with a bare action or buying a 5r and selling the barrel. sounds like selling that barrel is going to be a hassle and not worth the trouble.

I am kind of in the same pickle right now, except I already have a rifle. I don't know if I should just try to sell it and start with a bare action, or strip this one of the parts I don't want and go from there...

If thats the plan, I wouldn’t start with a 5R….

Why not just SHOOT the 5r barrel for a while?
Do you already shoot better than the 5r barrel will shoot?

Getting rid of a new 5R Remington barrel?

Is that like buying a brand new 2013 Chevrolet Corvette and replacing the Engine & Transmission because those factory parts aren't good enough?

Don't want to keep the barrel as I'm not interested in 308. Just need the action and stock.

For that money there's better options, but I'm just exploring the possibilities right now.

The action on the 5r feels a lot nicer and substantial than the stainless on a more standard model, like a CDL or something. Can anyone verify the differences? I jusy haven't gotten that far in my homework yet.
