Remington 770 30-06 threading barrel

I want to thread my 770 and put a muzzle break on it. Can I use 7.62 muzzle breaks on a 30-06? And any sugestions on what size thread do I need?

Yes, any 7.62 is going to be designed for .311 or .308 diameter plus a little bit more. Any 7.62 brake will have a thread size that will work unless your barrel is super skinny.

When I thread sporter barrels, I am looking for at least 0.050" more diameter on the barrel compared to the thread diameter.
For typical 5/8-24 threads, I like to see at least 0.675" diameter at the muzzle.
If the barrel is smaller than that, I typically drop down to 9/16-24 threads.

Is it actually worth spending any money on a Remington 770? It is going to break soon anyway...

Well. They're really light arent they?... so a brake would make it a LOT more comfortable to shoot while it does still shoot...

OP checkout schuler brakes. Great quality at a low price. He has several thread sizes available.

For most sporter barrels in .30 cal you can use down to a 1/2-28 thread. KDF brakes are available in .020" or .030" increments to get real close to barrel diameter at the muzzle. They are more pricey than the Schuler, but look better on a hunting rifle.
