Hey Calgunners, any one have any experience with the Kimber 8400 Tactical? I've read a few articles on it, and it either seems that it's a great gun or don't bother with it, no in betweens. Wondering what y'all thought it!

Since you "anyoned" I'll say that I've never been particularly impressed with value from Kimber in their 1911s, and I don't see much reason to buy an off the shelf expensive rifle when you can get a rifle built exactly how you want it for around the same money.
Having said that I've never shot a Kimber rifle of any flavor.weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?Comment

I've seen and shot one. It was a decent rifle. I think u can use the CDI bottom metal to convert it to aics mags. If you can find the advanced tactical with the none adjust for 1200 it could be a decent deal. If not, I'd go remy and build it up.Comment

Yeah not really looking to buy, but was curious as there seems to be no in between that i've foundLA CCW:

Seems like that's the general problem with it.
Pricey, but that can be overcome by:
Sponsoring shooters so you can say your products win competitions.
Getting large government contracts to convince people it must be good, or simply to play mall ninja.
Having a heritage of quality products(KoO yes, KoNY not so much).
Massive ad campaign to proclaim how great the rifles are(can't say I've ever run across a paid review, magazine article, rebate, demo, etc. of anything for the 8400 in recent years).
So if Kimber can't do anything to convince people to pay a premium for their rifles, people are just gonna go elsewhere for less money or get custom builds done.Comment

I know this- He asked specifically about a tactical rifle. If bet 50.00 at some point he will plan on wanting some upgrades. That rifle doesn't really have many upgraded parts. The action closely resembles a m70 p64 or is a clone. I forgot.Comment

I have a 8400 Tactical. I have shot it in 1000 yard F-Class competitions with good results.
It has shot just about everything I have fed it well. I have mostly shot 155 SMK Palmas at 2975 fps and 175 SMKs at 2625 fps.Comment

Bolt on upgrades are not always an upgrade so many are only a cosmetic disguise. True upgrades are done by gunsmiths with talent to do their magic on internals and get every once of performance out of a firearm. BTW the term Tactical does not imply to precision.Comment

Find me a detachable mag system em that takes aics mags? You didn't know till I told. Out if everyone who posted in this thread 2 people have real experiences. 1 was happy, 1 was not impressed. Upgrades are bolt in for rifles. But I'm sure you know that. Everything needs fitting minor or major to make work.Comment

Here's the deal. I had an Advanced Tactical and had the barrel chopped to 20" and had a surefire MB put on. At 100 yards it was one of the most accurate rifles I had owned --

Thats five shots of Federal 168 grain match. And the guy who bought it from me worked at a LGS and I saw him a year later and he said it was his most accurate gun. The downside? Not heavy accessorizing. It has a true control round feed, so not as "smooth" as the push feeds because more is going on as your work the bolt. It comes out of the box ready to go. I think it's as good as most of the semi-custom rifles out there. A lot of people bashed it in this thread who never owned one. I miss mine and because of this thread I have just ordered a second AT.Comment

I put muzzle brakes on a few... they're finished off nicely. Great triggers, they're bedded from the factory- and bedded properly too.
Barrels are a little but skinny for my taste though. If they were a little less $ I think they could catch on.
1 cool detail. All the components are coated before assembly. There's ceracoat (whatever is the re finish) on the front of the locking lugs in the rec, on the barrel threads and even on the breechface. The recoil lug too. Not sure why that all matters, but its nice to know.Comment

Like I said, they are decent guns but I can't see paying 2000.00 for them. 1200 for the none adjustable a5 stocked rifle would sell very well. The last one I saw was 2,000. IMHO it's not worth that much.Comment
