What range to zero Type 53/M44 at?

I just came into possession of a Type 53/M44 Mosin, and got some 174gr ammo for it. I was wondering what the optimum distance to zero these rifles is? I'm guessing it would be right about 100 yards, but I've also read that I should zero at 25, and it should hit the far zero at 200 meters. Is that about correct?

planning on getting a type 53 myself. Im assuming that its 100 yrds, but alas, I am no expert on sighting

I assume you mean the iron sights since its not too easy to just slap a scope on a Mosin Nagant.
The T53 like most Mosin Nagant do not have adjustable front sight posts for elevation.
So I don't know how you plan on zeroing it..

IMO Put the rear leaf sight slider all the way to the rear and have at it.

Bayonet at 1 yard should work fine, anything above that iron sights. Like above me suggested at 100 yards with leaf all the way back you will be good, anything above that just tweak a little. I believe its done by 100 of meters and is marked on the top of the gun, its late and I'm dumb so I could be wrong.

i think they were sighted for 200 yards, but even then ivan was told to aim for the belt buckle and get a body shot.i love my mosins but the sights were never very good. same for the mauser. now my 1903A3 springfield [ remington made ] has the best sights you will find on a WW 2 battle rifle.

Zero at 50 then go to the 100 yard range.

If your point of impact is about 2-2.5 inches above the bullseye you should be good to 200 yards.
