Rem 700 or T/C Venture?

Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase either a Remington 700 SPS or a Thompson Center Arms Venture, in .223. Use as a target rifle, varmint gun, and general plinker. Who has opinions on either? Price doesn't matter, they're both within my budget.

I love my 700 after owning it for a few weeks and watching my dad take his first antelope with his. But I know nothing of the Thompson to give you a good opinion.

I am certainly not a 700 fan but I would choose that way over the Venture. I am a T/C fan but the Venture is a bad move, I believe it is a Smith & Wesson wet dream and not the creation of T/C. Way too many recalls on it as well, the Dimension is another Smith & Wesson abortion. IMO If you want T/C get an Icon.

I have a Venture in .308 and has treated me well and accuracy is very good out of the box. However, if you're debating between the two, hands down Rem 700. The aftermarket support for the 700 is endless when your ready to upgrade vs. virtually non existent for the Venture.

I have a T/C Venture in .308, I purchased after shooting 3-4 different .308's one being a Remington 700.....I also have a Remington 700 SPS in .223, I added a midrange scope (Redfield Revolution) with a DNZ one piece Mount.....SOLID!!!! I would buy the same set up again in a heartbeat.....can't go wrong with either one, just depends on which one feels better to you.....if you want to start changing parts on the rifle then go with the 700. Just my .02

I have read that accuracy is good out of the box, and I will just be keeping it bone stock for use a varmint/coyote/target gun. I don't know, it's different, that's why I like it. You will not be disappointed, they shoot great and the action is tight but smooth. Love my .308 and was even thinking of getting another one in a different caliber.
