I handled a Ruger American at my local store and was thoroughly impressed with the handling of the rifle, the smoothness of the action, and overall quality. I'm interested to hear how it shoots.

The good news...shoots way under an inch with my 68 grain berger hand loads and factory Black hills gold 80 grain GMX.
The bad news is the factory magazine has no spring or follower!its an empty box...
Ruger is shipping me one out though

I have one in 30.06 love it! Only get used to magazine they actually hang down about a 16 th toward the back if you push it up into the well where you thinkk it should be the bbolt hangs up on the ramp..caused some frustration at first. Just push it in till it clicks and its good to go

I was down picking up a Savage Axis Youth model in .243 for my boys and ended up buying a American in .243 for myself.....not sure why I wanted to add another caliber to my safe but didn't want the boys to be the only ones shooting a .243.........so if you had a .223, .22-250, .270, and .308 bolt gun as well as a .30-30 lever were would the .243 fit in? I mean what would you use it for?
