    Good deal.

I have two, one in 308 and one in 270. Both mid 70's production, and both shoot sub MOA with hand loads.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

The push feed Winchester was known for being one of the smoothest running actions made and were only less desirable because it was a such a huge change from the pre-64 model that gun nuts couldn't accept it. Even though just about every other American bolt action was push feed, the die hard gun writers and old timers just hated it.

Good point. I have hunted using both CRF and push feeders, and after using both, I have come to the conclusion that a push-feed is so much more user friendly for certain manipulations. About the only reason I can now see for a CRF is hunting dangerous game, and even that may be a stretch. On a “stopping” rifle yes, but for a rifle used for shooting anything past 100 yards, no.

Although my heavy guns are CRF, I don't see any real world reason that push feed rifles won't work even as Dangerous Game rifles.

The only time that a push feed is at a disadvantage is when you work the action really slowly and the case ejects before the bolt reaches full travel. If you push the bolt forward at that exact moment it will not pick up the next round from the magazine and you will close the bolt on an empty chamber. This is called short stroking and I've only had it happen when I was shooting off a bench and I was trying to keep my brass from being thrown on the ground. In a hurry or fast shooting situation, you're not going to baby the bolt slowly. you're going to slam it back on the bolt stop and slam it back forward again. The push feed actions will work as well as any other action when operated that way.

            ^^^ Agreed.
Even when in the process of load development (about the only time I use a bench), I run the bolts hard. Brass on the ground is simply picked up when done.
There are several points to consider when discussing CRF vs Push Feed, but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and how much practice one actually does to be ready for the intended use. My PH over in Africa will allow me to use a CRF in .375 H&H on buffalo for hunting, but he carries a larger double rifle as a “stopper” when we get much closer. After several campfire discussions about what he has personally observed while leading clients on DG hunts, I can see why.
I know you can relate to this.

I like New Haven Winchester 70's. They work well, and they're strong. That definitely includes the push-feed models.
