It's currently a 30-06. It works nice, have no complaints. But 6.5 Swede is basically 6.5 creed with more case capacity. So you get the nice soft shooting, but can go a bit hotter if you choose. Since I'm handloading and have no special affection for short action cartridges it makes as much sense as any other. Plus I have some ammo loaded from my m94 swedish Mauser already.

OLD-skool, what powders do you have on hand? My 22-250[older Savage 112 FVS] worked well with IMR4064, IMR4895 and Varget using Sierra 55gr bthp bullets.

I loaded 60 rounds using IMR 3031, 40 with a Hornady 40 grain Vmax and 20 with a Hornady 55 grain GMX. Unfortunately, I have not been able to shoot them yet as work is taking most of my free time and puppies the rest. I am hoping to go to Bass Pro this coming week and pick up some Varget and Some H380. I purchased a set of FORSTER, REDDING TYPE S FULL LENGTH, and LE Wilson dies.

The big question here is round count which is unknown. Others have already stated what I was going to say about the .22-250.

My suggestion is to buy a new one. 😉

I ended up buying one of the new Tikka T3X SUPER VARMINT in 22-250.

I love the .22-250. Mine is a Kimber Longmaster. I handload 50 gr V-MAx or Ballistic Tip bullets over Ramshot Big Game powder. It has been a prairie dog killer. My newer prairie dog rifle is a Cooper .204 Ruger. It shoots as flat but I can see the hits through the scope as recoil is negligible. My other varmint rifles are .223 - a CZ 527 for walking around with and an older Savage Model 110 (before they cam out with the Model 10) with a short heavy barrel called the "4x4." I load 40 gr bullets over TAC or H-322 for those.

I have also had 2 Tikka T-3 Lites - a .243 that shoots half inch groups and a .300 Win that shoots better than I can off the bench with such a light rifle in a magnum chambering.

I have a 2000's era R700 with a target barrel and synthetic stock. I bought it used with an unknown round count. It shoots .750" groups at 100 using Sierra TMK 50 grain and 35.0 of IMR4064 which runs about 3700. At that speed its 18 MOA drop at 750 yards which is far outside its effective range but still fun for targets. Its a great cartridge.
