My honest brother told him he loaded his own and he told him to try and sue him if he wants , but he won’t get anything. He offered a new MK V at cost( a few hundred off). He said his pre64 ish guns could let gas into the magazine and detonate the rounds in the mag. Exactly what happened as the mag well was blown almost round. The 3 in the mag blew down thru the bench. Stay away from pre 65 Weatherbys. Roy’s FU attitude was enough for me to never own any of their products… ever. Your choice… PS, my brother loaded ammo like a scientist. It wasn’t his reloads that caused this.
That was kinda uncool what Roy did. And I've heard a few stories about Roy kinda along those lines. Fortunately, his grandson, Adam Weatherby (the current CEO), seems to be a lot more accommodating to customers. My rifle was made after they moved manufacturing back to the USA, so post-1995. I've heard the Japanese-made ones are also of very high quality, as expected of anything Japanese-made.

These were my go to guns for whatever! The ones left are 7MM WBY, 257 WBY, 224 WBY and a Mark XXII. I still enjoy the fancy wood, shiny steel and fast delivery. I don't like the price of WBY Brass for reloading though!
Yep, brass can be kinda expensive, especially if you buy it from Weatherby themselves. In my case, I happened to find some Norma brass on a 50% sale, so that was helpful. Turned out to be just above $1.00 per case. For premium brass of any chambering, that's pretty good. This was actually the motivation for getting the rifle. After all, if one has brass for it, then you can't just let that brass sit there and get lonely! That would be cruel. It needs attention, needs to be used properly! You know, for environmental recycling of metal purposes. That's what I did; I kept metal out of the landfills and also kept the brass emotionally happy. :-)

That's my story an' I'm stickin' to it. :-)

I have my dad's Mark V in .300. I remember going to their Southgate location a few times with him as a kid. I'm actually considering selling it since he doesn't want it and too old to shoot it. Beautiful gun though.
