My new budget 308 bolt gun

    Stevens 334

Ended up costing me $90 after using Bass Pro gift cards I have accumulated hahahah

I love 308 bolt guns, and I have a Bergara B14 which I absolutely love too. But one of the biggest complaints I have about it is that it is HEAVY. So I was looking to get a budget 308 gun that was a bit lighter. I was set on buying a Ruger American but after seeing this wood in person, I just had to. I am a sucker for wood rifles. The wood is absolutely gorgeous for a budget gun

Honestly, I love it and I am very happy with it.

    Can't wait to shoot it!

I have not shot it. Hoping to go this weekend.

But I just can't get over how beautiful the wood looks on this budget gun.

I've been handling it these past few days. I am just amazed at how good it feels despite it being a budget gun. I love these types of guns lol. Cheap yet they feel so good.

I too bought one of those Stevens 334's, for the same reason, except my sample has strong "tiger stripes" throughout... I'd rate it as "presentation grade" walnut... I was doing a PPT at Turner's and this thing had an INCREDIBLE stock that is probably worth many times the price of the gun.

Haven't shot it yet, I bought it stricly on the "eye candy" impression! I did check the reviews before "pulling the trigger" and they were pretty favorable, so I expect it to be a good shooter!

Yup! I have a Ruger American in 556 and at first I was set on purchasing a Ruger American in 308 but after I saw videos on this rifle and then actually went to the store and handled it, it was a no brainer. The Ruger American is a great budget gun but the wood stock alone just sold it for me lol.

Here's a quick little video I filmed of it. I can't get enough of this budget rifle. I am hoping to go this weekend to the range and shoot it!

I was going to post a couple pix of mine, and the site went AWOL yet again.... but let's see if it works long enough to show off the incredible stock on the one I stumbled on!

                      Looks great!

I was able to take it out to the range and I am very happy with it. I was shooting some GGG 147gr FMJs. Nothing special, just reliable 308 rounds and I got decent groupings. I am also not the best shot in the world so I am 100% positive this rifle in the hands of good shooters + good ammo can get even better results. But for my kind of shooting, I am perfectly fine with this. Btw, in the middle diamond I am counting the circled 3 rounds because the other three were from a video clip I shot and wanted to shoot fast 😆.

The first 3 shot groups were the top left corner, and then I worked my way around the target. Overall, I think I got pretty consistent groupings after the initial 3 rounds.

Very nice looking rifle! And it shoots very well, too! I have had excellent "luck" with Savage's accuracy. I even had a model 340 in .30-30 that put 3 shots into 5/8" consistently at 100 yards with a handload of IMR 4064 and 170 gr Remington Corelokts.

Although mine was an "impulse buy" due to the gorgeous stock, I did research this rifle a bit, found that it was a Turkish manufactured gun that Savage was importing under the Stevens branding, and the SHOT show reviews I read were VERY favorable on accuracy. I've noticed that Savage site doesn't have the Stevens brand listed last time I went there, so I guess these may not have sold as well as hoped?

The other thing I'm hoping to figure out is how to get hands on a larger magazine - the 3 rounder included is obviously an EU compliant, but there are supposed to be 5 rounders available.... not high on my "to do list", but certainly would be nice, the factory 3 rd is plastic, so I've even contemplated trying to 3D print a larger mag!?
