    Ruger American 5.56 muzzle brake/compensator

I am doing some research on muzzle devices. I want to control muzzle rise but also don't want an horrendous amount of felt noise. This video had some good ones but honestly didn't have a lot of more real recent compensators or brakes. No Strike Ind., Surefire, Lantac, JP ent, Faxon, etc. A2 would be fine but since we live in CA, are they okay for bolt actions? The larger devices with large gas ports seem to be way louder for shooter and adjacent shooters. Anyone with experience or those who have a Bolt 5.56 or .223, please chime in. Thanks and happy shooting.

i have the same Ruger American.
I have this on mine. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003311086?pid=565135 This does have side blast.
But we all shoot with muzzle brakes. So no one is bothered by the blast.

i have these on my self defense AR. The one with the sharp edges. https://yhm.net/accessories/muzzle-a...mm-comp-brake/

I have these on my other ARs. https://www.aimsportsinc.com/a2-muzzle-brake-5-56-cal/ not much side blast.

On my Savage Precision 223 i have this one. https://www.americanprecisionarms.co...31134263771233

does one work better than the other ?? No idea.

but i reload and shoot 68g and 75g. They have a little more felt muzzle rise.

if you think a muzzle brake will tighten up your groups. Wrong. most likely its your ammo.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Battle Comp seem to control muzzle rise, and if I remember correctly, are not too loud. They have smaller ports. The make different variations and maybe even custom thread for your barrel if needed. Maybe you can find a knock off on Ebay.

            There?s no free lunch.
Brakes re-route the gasses rearward to reduce recoil.
Comps re-route upward to reduce muzzle rise.
These actions make the gun louder.
            It?s really that simple.
The muzzle devices that work the best are also the loudest.

Get a suppressor. That'll do exactly what you want. Oh wait............

If it's Bench rifle , you can try to make stock heavier too .

Thanks for the input gunners. We will see in a few weeks when I pick it up. Wish me luck. Hopefully the 62 and 75 grain stuff will do well. I have some standard 55 grn ammo too. Anyone willing to let me shoot at Burro Canyon on a weekend, let me know. I will bring the ammo. I am in a holding pattern with the 1/30.

Thanks for all the input gunners. I will be out at Burro on a weekday afternoon if anyone wants to join in about 2 weeks. I have will have .223 PMC, 5.56 Green tips, 5.56 AE and some other stuff to play with. I will stick to ammo selection first. I am mounting a scope and bore sighting this week. Nikon or Vortex or Sightron. Not sure yet. Keep your gun pointing ahead and your magazines full people. Thanks
