    I?d like a new 30-06

I have a steyr pro hunter right now, but entertaining options for a new 30-06.

What does the CG brain trust recommend?

How about the new Christensen Arms Evoke? It retails for under a grand. Either that, or go classic! Think M1 Garand or Browning BAR.

      Garand.

Unless you're looking for a hunting rifle, then Tikka.

Last year, I got myself a Benelli Lupo in 30-06, I put an Area 419 muzzle brake on it, plan to hunt with it using my handload of 130 grain Barnes TTSX, using Varget I am averaging 3,100 fps!

That?s my next rifle but in 270 win. With the faster twist rate, it will shoot heavier bullets - think Berger, Sierra and Nosler are making 170-175 grain bullets.

Berger’s latest addition to the hunting line; the 270 caliber 170 grain Elite Hunter. This bullet is designed for maximum external and terminal ballistic performance in 270 caliber rifles that  have twist rates faster than the traditional 1:10”. Nearly all rifles

What do you want that the Steyr doesn't have?

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I have been very happy with my Model 70 Alaskan in .30-06 made (assembled I believe) in Portugal by FN/Winchester.

It is very nice looking, has a smooth pre-64 style action, and is very accurate.

I would buy another Winchester Model 70 without reservation and in fact keep looking at a .264 WinMag All Weather model…..

The Tikka T3 is also nice (but no iron sights) and the Ruger Guide gun is pretty good but a little rough in finish and a little high in price for what you get. I would also take a chance on a new RemArms 700 BDL or CDL as they look very good.

                    Here you go:
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Christensen Arms are nice. Tikkas are great if you're on a budget (and even if you're not). I have a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS that's really nice.

I have a Savage Model 10 (now 110) in .223. It's very accurate with a smooth action, and was an excellent purchase.

Here is one in 30-06 with walnut stock, adjustable LOP and comb height. MSRP is $1129.

When I bought my Savage there was a nice rebate, so be sure to check the Savage site to see if the rifle you want has the rebate.

Long ago I owned a Win M70 in .308. It was beautifully made and very accurate. If I was buying today, the M70 would be on my short list.

Three votes for the M1 Rifle.
CMP still has Expert grades, with new stock and barrel, for $1150.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the M1 or any semi auto is not in consideration.

I had to double check I posted this in the manually operated section.

Christiansen, Tikka, Seekins, and weatherby all have my interest.

The Tikka T3x was surprisingly smooth for the price.

If you want to go higher end, with proven accuracy, at a good price:
