Saw a new Marlin 1894.44 today!

At my Favorite LGS! The Camarillo Gun Store.

It was an 1894 Carbine with a 20.5" bbl and a Full Length Mag Tube and Dual Barrel Bands.

Overall it looked just like all the ones being reviewed on You Tube. With nice bluing and really nice dark wood with some decent grain!.

I have to say that I was Duly Impressed with the fit and finish of the metal to metal and wood to metal fit was better than any other Marlin I have ever seen! Cut Checkering that was perfect and yes I looked at it under a Magnifying Glass!. Bluing was perfect as well.

And it was smooth operating both opening and closing.

Trigger was a little stiff probably slightly more than 6 lbs. But that will wear in.

This was the nicest Factory Marlin I have ever seen! and I was impressed!

The machining was so far above anything Remlin ever made, and it is pointless to even mention JM Marlin as their products were crap in comparison to the Remington's !

So in In My NOT So Humble Opinion. (IMNSHO) Ruger hit Another One out of the Park with these guns. The store had it at $1399.

About 2-3 years ago. Seems anyone who has one or has seen these new Ruger/Marlins REALLY are impressed what Ruger is doing. Kudos to Ruger.

Any rollmarks/stamping to differentiate the Remingtons and Rugers? Like how the Marlins are stamped ?JM.?

Couldn't say. Randy may have some input on that.

Very cool. May have to sell some other lever gun to buy one of these new ones.

Where ya been? Under a rock? Hahaha... I'm KIDDING. Kinda.

We have been very much looking forward to this. We had a hunch Ruger would do Marlin proud.

Ruglins have a different serial number scheme to easily differentiate them, along with some specific cosmetic differences. I was considering holding out for a new 1894, but broke down and got a win 1892 deluxe trapper takedown instead.

That's probably the reason for the markups at the dealers. Ruger is doing really great work with these lever guns. The qualityis superb. I plan on getting a 1895 SBL.

I didn't think to look at the SN but I am sure it will be different than the Remlins.

There was also an 1895 Trapper sitting next to it on the counter and I mauled it as well. It was a stainless gun and the fit and finish on it was similar to the 1894. It actually ran a little smoother than the 1894.

The 1894 only had a very Slight Edge Break on the Chamber Mouth which I was kind of disappointed in. It was maybe .005-.010 The 1895 had a much larger Chamfer at about .020-.025. Still it should feed SWC's and WFN's without hanging up.

                        I was impressed.

I?ll buy the .357 version but I would have to sneak it in the side door.

The Remington made guns serial # start MR##### and end with a letter . The Ruger guns start RM##### and end with a number...at least mine are like that.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Interesting take, most people sure seem to feel differently... Myself I honestly don't know as I only own an older 336 that I love but I've really never compared it to a Remlin. Not a fan of the cross bolt safely on a lever gun no matter who makes it, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker.
