Never got in touch with Randall so after filling my tag i ran into a new hunter who saw me skinning out a buck. Dont know his last name but he had a friendly dog and was hunting quail at the time.
He never shot a deer owned a magpul Remington 700 with a Vortex scope and bipod in 308 so a relatively heavy gun and he didnt have a gym membership.
He met all the criteria for a buck hunter so we scheduled a hunt after i filled my tag.
We met alongside the road and transferred his gear into my truck and conversed for another hour as we slowly drove to our destination over a sketchy road.
Our first location had plenty of deer but nothing to shoot at so we drove on until he spotted a coyote. He took a 200 yard shot but no success. He then spotted a shooter but at 700+ yards. We tried figuring out a shooting solution but after 3 shots we decided it best to move on for a closer shot.
Next location he spotted a lion with a kitten those long tails are a dead giveaway.
We drove around the area refilled my tank and as we where getting back into our spot a decent 3X3 was spotted but gave us the slip into posted land.
I then spotted a forked horn with a weird antler and Dan quickly got on him and made the shot.
I think he was shooting Barnes factory ammo and hit the buck through both lungs just at the front shoulder.
We loaded the deer up and headed to the tree where we always skin from and after the fish and game lady validated his tag he skinned out his first buck. He ended up with 1 good shoulder one damaged shoulder both backstraps both hams and 2 good fillets so very little waste.
24 deer in total 4 bucks one lion one kitten one coyote spotted so a very productive day.
Next year this hunt is reserved for Randall the last week of season so get an A zone tag have a bolt action rifle and dump any gym memberships.
