    7mm PRC approaved by SAAMI

The new 7mm PRC cartridge was approved by SAAMI last month. Should be officially revealed in the fall.

I was interested in the 7mm SAUM but a lack of factory support and components was a road block. The 7mm PRC isn't a necked up 6.5 PRC or a necked down .300 PRC. The case splits the difference between the two. Looks like the rated performance is a 180 grain bullet at 2,950 fps from a 24" barrel.

I'm sure people will complain about yet another new cartridge but this one seems pretty interesting. Set up for the new high BC bullets from the start.

The point is to fit high BC bullets and stabilize them from the SAAMI factory rifle. You can build a rifle for older rounds that will stabilize the high BC bullets but it will be outside of SAAMI specs.

Looks like it's a 103% 7mm magnum without a belt. It's going to have a limited audience. Hunters will just get a 7mm magnum. It's too much for PRS, etc.

What are the chances that anyone shooting the 7mmPRC will be shooting SAAMI spec factory ammunition out of a 7mmPRC SAAMI factory rifle?
Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

They should have gone bigger. A necked down 300 PRC would be great.

                Clarification:
The diameter of the belt on the 7mm Rem Mag is 0.532". The body of the 7mm PRC is 0.532 at the base.
The 7mm Rem Mag case OAL is 2.50" the OAL on the PRC case is 2.28" (For a 7mm rem mag, 2.28" from the base is about where the neck taper ends.)
                7mm Rem Mag Vel 175gr is 2850fps
                7mm PRC velocity 180gr is 2900fps.

Looks like the difference between a Ford Escort and a Mercury Lynx. I'll stick with my 7mm Remington Express (280 Remington).

                Thank you and best regards,

Wow, 50 fps! Let's go out and drop a grand or more on a new rifle!

Spend $1,000 on reloading supplies for your 7 Mag and you'll never need a PRC

Exactly. I don't really see anything I can't live without.

The 6.5 PRC is very similar to 300 win mag performance wise

No clue on accuracy as you don't have a belted case
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)
