    Husqvarna 1640

    Howdy neighbors,

    I am looking at buying a Husqvarna 1640 in 30-06. It is a 50's vintage I believe.

Any experience with these? Thanks in advance.

My grandfather had one in .270 Win. It was accurate, reliable, and a nice looking rifle. My brother now has it and he and his sons use it for deer hunting.

I had one for about 30 Years .30-06 it was my go to Centerfire Rifle.

I don't know why this was but this gun kicked like a mule. I have several .30-06's, a Ruger Guide Gun, an NRA Sporter neither of which transfer as much recoil as the Husky did. I sold it.

However they are excellent guns, well made, and very accurate. Some of the best made Mauser rifles ever made.

Thank you every one for the response.

And thanks for the heads up on the recoil. I have watched a few videos about these rifles. I think it was the guy that posts as "USOG" on Youtube that also mentioned the recoil.

His thinking was that they were meant to be "carried a lot and fired little." Makes sense.

Thanks again. I think I may pass on this one and look at a Springfield '03. I don't hunt any more and I am looking for a range rifle to punch holes in paper.

I have found that a wearable recoil pad really makes hard kicking rifles reasonable to shoot. I feel dorky wearing one but I can shoot hard kickers without hesitation now.

Here is mine in 30-06 and your welcome to shoot it and judge the recoil for yourself. Basically they are sporterized commercial 98 Mausers.

That's a very generous offer, thank you. If I were closer I would definitely take you up on it.
