I am happy with my Marlin Guide Gun, though it is not a take-down. It is also easier to mount a low-power scope if I want. Mine already has the Skinner aperture sight.
I am sure this one has a nice case-hardened finish, but my guns gets used and I am happy with what I have - so for me, no, it is not worth the price.Comment

Taylor's guns are made by Uberti I believe in general. or one of the Italian old west repro manufacturers. I have one of the Taylor 1873 357 case hardened repos and it's nice. really nice. runs smooth and super reliable
it's not exactly the same thing, but I have the Chiappa wildlands 45-70 takedown. beautiful gun. pretty sure its also a 86 at heart. again not sure which Italian company makes Taylor's TC86. but most of these companies are located near each other. one thing to bear in mind these aren't "cowboy" guns. the lever is relatively and I stress relatively stiff which is fine. I mean no one is speed shooting 45-70. not at modern lever loads anyways.
Edit: google says the TC86 is made by chiappa so same as mine

I have a Taylor's n Co SmokeWagon in .357. Its a great gun. It's just a Uberti with a little tune up from their smiths.
If you want better go with a Winchester. You can't beat em and they have great customer support...
My opinion of the OP gun is its something only a mother could love.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
Happiness is a warm gun.

I'm with golfish on this one. And at that price, there are way better options.
Too many weird doo-dads on that thing. Pass.

I think i've read about those. Do you remember liking the configuration? I actually really enjoy the ergonomics of the scout scope configuration, though I'll admit it's odd-looking.
I was considering sending my beloved 336 for a takedown conversion to the few 'smiths that perform the surgery, but cost becomes a big factor, as does the takedown mechanism. I've found them to seem somewhat ungainly, compared to my model 12 takedown and ruger PC Carbine takedown where you only have to rotate the barrel assembly a 1/4 turn to disengage the threads. With these non-factory conversions, it's something like 4-6 revolutions of the whole assembly to break the action. The two conversions I saw, also require a small thumb screw for magazine retention, which to me carries a big risk of getting lost...lol.
Those are small things, but if i'm paying a huge chunk of coin either way, I want what I want, you know.
I think I'm still set on either a Winchester or a Taylor takedown, unless a 3rd candidate comes along.Last edited by MissiontoMars; 04-04-2022, 10:27 PM.Comment
