No Gay Tiger?I am considering a build of a new long range varmint bolt action rifle and decided on 6mm. It seems like nowadays there are a lot of options.
I seem to have the following options at the very least:
6mm Creedmore
6mm Dasher
6xC
6mm PPC
6mm BR(A)
6 x 47 Lapua
6mm ARC
Doing a peruse of YouTube it seems everyone like the lates which doesn't help though 6mm Dasher is supposed to have a better barrel life than others.
Any opinions from those with experience?
I reload, so availability of factory ammo is not an issue though availability of brass is as long as I don't have to run through a multitude of steps to form the brass.Randall Rausch

I'll take that 6ppc stuff.
I have been meaning to build myself one for years.
I even picked up the reamers and gauges.
Just never got around to it.Randall Rausch

The ppc might not be a bad idea but you need to form brass.
The dasher and BRA are essentially the same. Making brass is simple with the bra, you just shoot 6br brass.
I have shot the ppc, bra, dasher, and 6x47. There isn’t much of a difference between them, A prairie dog will certainly never know.
The bra along with a 6br is the easy button out of those.
What bullet are you planning on using? There is a little recoil with them, it’s easy to miss the “splat”. A muzzle brake might be a good idea.
Your powders on hand will shoot well enough with any of these cartridges.Last edited by eric n; 02-18-2022, 6:38 AM.Comment

And just to clarify you can shoot the 6ppc with a 308 boltface. My Borden 6ppc has a 308 boltface.
And dont forget RE15 powder in the 6BR and 6 Dasher that powder has won a bunch of trophies.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

A friend of mine shot .189 for a 3 shot 100 yard group, and .509 at 300 yards using a Berger 95 grain VLD out of his 6mm BR, so will give that a try among others.
I was also looking at:
95 grain Sierra Match King
108 grain Hornady ELD

Everyone's definition of "long range" varies, but among the PRS guys who shoot 6mm, the top 3 most commonly used bullets are:
David Tubb 115 grain DTAC
Hornady 108 grain ELD-M
Berger 105 grain Hybrid TargetComment

I'd look at the .243 Winchester.
There's a good article on a AR10 in .243 in the current Rifle Magazine. He was below 1MOA for just about every load he tried. Lots of Varget used.
