For what that rifle cost you could almost have a custom rifle built. The only downside is the long wait on a custom build

If it was in 7.62x54r I could convince myself to get one. In 308 it just competes with every American and European manufacturer on the market now.

Your rifle is the standard Mauser open action the one in the op is a closed action.
Never heard these terms regarding Mauser or anything else for that matter. Can you explain that ? - thanks

He is talking about the top of the action.

Older bolt action rifles often had an open top so you could load from the top.
This was done because these guns had fixed magazines.
Also, it was common to load with a stripper clip and actions setup for that would have a stripper clip notch on the front of the rear bridge.

Bolt actions that accept a detachable magazine do not need an open top to load through as you remove the magazine to load it.
Closing the top of the action makes the action MUCH stiffer.
A stiffer action can support a heavier barrel and be more accurate.

Closed top actions are actually cheaper to manufacture as well as there is less machining required.
We also find some of the least expensive bolt action rifles to have closed tops.

Thanks AR. I have "real" Mausers ( JK ) and they would all be classified as "open" as they are mil surp and stripper fed from the top. They all have the rear notch to set the clip into as the rounds are compressed into the magazine. Models 96, 98, 24/47. Never heard of the terminology before this post. My Tikka would be "closed" if I read this correctly.
