Can anyone here share some experiences with their new Winchester Case Hardened color holding up on the receiver? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

New Winchester Case hardened

It's my understanding the modern color case hardening is a finish. It's very durable, but like any finish, it could be worn off from LOTS of handling. Modern metals don't need to be hardened like they did in the old days. B.Comment

I sent my new Winchester short rifle to Turnbull for a few things, one being color case hardening. I think they use the older way that uses the bone charcoal method. It does look a lot better then the newer stuff that I have and have seen.Last edited by golfish; 01-07-2022, 12:36 PM.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Thanks Golfish, I am acquiring a Winchester 1892 deluxe takedown case hardened rifle in 45 long Colt (CCR), just wondering what precaution needed to handling the rifle to make the CCR last a bit longer. Sure like to see what Turnbull CCR looks like when you get your rifle back.Last edited by Viper49; 01-07-2022, 6:56 PM.Comment

I really don't think you'll have to worry about it. I have an older Rossi that's CCH, its held up really well.
Please post up pictures when you get it. Folks are going to be more interested in your gun then mine.
I had Turnbull remove the tang safety and rebounding hammer. That's something that you might be interested in.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

M1NM, I got it from Sportsman, the stock I think is Grade VI American Black walnut. Rifle is in 10 days jail right now. Secondly, Never got a Case Hardened weapon, just like to know how to handle it and enjoy that case hardened color for a while.Last edited by Viper49; 01-07-2022, 7:02 PM.Comment

Exactly Kerplow. When I posted my first response, what I had in my mind and was not fully expounded on, was wear from scabbards and holsters.
I would hope everyone is using a treated gun cloth to wipe down their arms before storing. Hopefully. B.Comment
