What an interesting thread, photos and video. I never heard of Pete Hofer and love the idea some have enough wealth to support such a great art and craftsmanship.

For hunting shotguns I prefer Spanish (Aya or Grulla) SxS sidelocks. This 20 bore is gold inlayed. It has taken plenty of doves and quail.

Most of those 4 bore etc. rifles get put in display cases and never get used. Here is a video of some of those type of rifles by a renowned gunsmith. I wish I had $500K+ to spend on a rifle.

Those are some of the most beautiful firearms I've ever seen. I'd rather have one of those than a Monet or a Picasso. The art of it all, is just amazing. I can see why you don't actually shoot something like that.
