If you can find a NIB Tikka for $700, get it.

Otherwise, i'd suggest a Savage 110 or Ruger American.

Sportsman's has Tikka Lites in stock for $649 right now. Superlites are $779.

6.5 is in stock too https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-...moor/p/1463077

One advantage some Savages have is fit. If they have an AccuFit stock you can change the length of pull and cheek riser height.

              There are few choices.
I’d hold them and see what feels good to you..
Tikka is boring accurate and can’t go wrong with it.
Bergara Hunter, mauser m18, sauer 100, weatheby vanguard.
Thomspson center is going out of business and my tc venture keeps up and sometimes outshoot My Tikka .
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Might I suggest a Mauser m18. Baugh to the rifle to get a half price minix scope. I am very impressed by the rifle. One of the best factory triggers I have ever felt.

You want a gun to tinker with and don't want junk then you said no Remington which has more tinker parts than all the others combined?

Try bedding the rifle to see if that helps.

Savage 110Apex Hunter w/Vortex 3-9x40 Vortex Crossfire scope. MSRP $685

More Savage 110's, Here, for your drooling pleasure.

I have a Model 10 in .223 that will shoot 1 MOA at 100 yds all day long with factory ammo. Nice rifle, and excellent quality.

If you want to tinker you would be best served with a Remington due to all the aftermarket support. If you want out of box ready to go, a Savage. The accustock and AccuTrigger make it easy to dial in. However Savage and Tikka have far less aftermarket accessories than Remington.

I’d stay away from Remington and kimber and any or all combo scope deals.
I’m sick of hearing about vortex and their warranty. Unless you go viper or up. Meopta has some excellent glass for the money. Other scopes to look at would , burris that’s great value.
Leupold with their CDS is stupid easy to use

Expect trash grade scope in most economical bolt action + scope combo from the factory.

My only complaint about my savage 110 is the rail that came with the rifle. Either upgrade to a better rail with integrated recoil lug or reassemble with blue loctite + epoxy bedding
