    Remington 40XB date estimate????

I've got a 40XB in 30-06, serial number 56xxxB. The barrel date code is EK which, as I understand it, means October of 1963, or 1990, or possibly 2015 or 2016 (don't know if 40X still made then?)

Can anyone help me narrow this down? I'm guessing 1990 but hard to judge

Or possibly the barrel date doesn't even match with the receiver s/n????

    Thanks!

If you are sure that the barrel is correct to the receiver, that gun should be from 1990 because the serial number is way too high to be from 1963.
Lots of 1960's-1970's guns are in the 30,000-40,000 serial number range.

      Thanks!!!

I'm not positive it's the original barrel although I have no reason to believe otherwise.

      So I totally agree, couldn't be 1963.

I found one discussion on the Sniper's hide web site where someone was asking about at 58xxxx rifle and the consensus was 1992 (which would make mine 1990) but I've also seen comments stating 45xxx dated from the mid-70's and with an estimated 500 unit/year, my s/n wouldn't have come up til maybe 1997 or so

Another guy on the Benchrest web site said he got 53xxx in 1976 purchased new which would put mine around 1984, so go figure...???

I'm going to assume 1990 unless someone has a closer reference point. It's a matter of curiosity only

      Thanks, guys!!!!!

        I have a L/H 40XBKS I ordered from the custom shop in 1994. Serial # is 5950XX.

Your rifle is pretty close to your guess of 1990 or so.

I pulled the rifle out of it's case and took a look at the barrel date code. It is "DO", which is September, 1994.

Don't they make these in batches? I assume they do a run of receivers, complete a few in common calibers and send the rest to custom to be barreled as orders come in. So SN's could be all over the place I imagine.
