I'm going javelina hunting in AZ, and my buddy says at the most 150 yards.
I would just use the one that came with the rifle.
$200.00 won't get you anything noticeably better.
Good luck and have a great time!

I bought some China crap "Cvlife" 6-24x50 last year. At 100 yards, the elevation and windage adjustment dials are maxed out would not turn anymore, I had to hold 2 ticks left of bulls eye and 2 ticks below to hit center. So there you go, cheap $50 scope

I'll state the obvious - don't use fmj's or match hollow points. Use soft points, hollow points in the 9mm if you take it.

            Feel lucky?

            Durability.
Internally, reticles and linkages can fail after repeated heavy recoiling rounds are fired. Seals can leak causing fogging. Both type failures can render scopes unusable.
It's a balance of cost, quality, risk....if going on safari to Africa you probably don't want to rely on a cheap scope. Pigs in AZ? How lucky do you feel?

6-18 is a horrible choice for a shortrange (under 200yds) hunting gun.
1-4, 1.5-6 or 2-7 is where it's at for shortrange hunting.

The last time I let somebody look through my NF at the range, he got pissed off at his scope. Just sayin'

This... It is true for camera lenses, microscopes, spotting scopes, telescopes ect too.

That's why I like my Nikon 80-200/2.8 for my SLR. Huge aperture for low light, good glass and coatings.

Try resolving sub-micron features on a microscope. Easy to get in to super expensive lenses and eye pieces.

Crappy glass with more magnification won't show you any more detail than higher quality glass at lower magnification.

At the $200 price point, you are not looking at any scopes with good quality glass.
Good quality glass starts showing up around $1000 and great quality glass is assured once you are at $2500 and beyond.

inexpensive chinese made scope will work for midsize game up close.
i wouldn't expect you'll be able to hit a 1moa sized target at 800 yards with one, and you might not even be able to see it.

Expensive = Scope + Life time guarantee on fixing it if it breaks.
Cheap = Scope (and hope it doesn't break, which it will)
