I have an 1903 with a C type stock that at some time in the past had a Pachmayr shoulder pad fitted. I'm trying to determine whether the pad was simply added, thus elongating the rifle, or if the stock was first cut back.
Chances are the stock was shortened as part of the installation, but I'm hoping not so I can simply remove the pad and fit an original butt plate.
Can anyone help me with some dimensions of a correct stock that will help me to make the determination?
For example, I measured approximately 11 1/4 inches from the metal tang on the bottom of the receiver to the end of the shoulder pad. How does this compare with an original? Or any other useful reference measurements
Thanks!!!
