270 Weatherby Golden Eagle, yay or nay?

I was at my local Gun store earlier today and picked up some primers from them.
While I was there, I saw a 270 Weatherby Golden Eagle in 95%+ shape with scope.
I don't know why, but it is calling me something fierce.
So I came home and did some quick research.

WOW, factory ammo is like bitcoin. Except that it is unavailable on top of being close to $4 per round.
It's not a deal killer because I would reload.

Anyhow, except for the Golden Eagle roll mark on top of the chamber hood, the thing is gorgeous! I believe it to be a Nikko 7000.

Does anyone have experience Owning/Shooting/Hunting/Reloading this beast?
What kind of a rabbit hole am I getting into if I buy it?

I'd appreciate some feedback if you have it, Thanks.

I had one, beautiful rifle. Shot good. I did not like the safety on it. It was a tang safety and it got loose, in a short time, I didn’t know how to fix it, so I sold it. That was back in the mid 80’s. Mine was in 7MM Rem. Mag.

It's a classic. 140s at 3250. Made in Japan by Nikko as you said. I never pass up a reasonable LH Weatherby, so I probably would have bought it on the spot. Thank goodness I'm not a rightie.

How will the rifle be used?

        Hunting things bigger than deer?

        Paper punching?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

This is not a, what should I get thread.
I'm not in the market for a new/specific gun.

I ran across this gem that caught me eye. We are discussing the Merritts of this one rifle. Or to compare it to another Weatherby.

I had a .270 Wthby Acculite. IT was a great gun, and the ballistics are fantastic. I also have a .257 Wthby and decided I didnlt need both.l I sold the .270 Wthby to a friend and he uses it every year in Nebraska, where he is from and owns land. He loves it as the ranges can get long across corn field stubble.

Id say if you have plans to hunt with it and it draws you buy it. Can always get a small simple reloading setup to cut costs way down and improve consistency.
