30 ICL Remington 700

I inherited a Remington 700 chambered in 30 ICL from my grandfather who passed away. I only got about 25 rounds with it and no dies to reload. The barrel started out as a 30-06. Anyone know if I can shoot standard 30-06? I have searched the internet and can't find much info. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a great opportunity to get an upgraded barrel in .30-06, and not have to worry about what it is, and if you can find ammunition.
I did a quick internet search, and from what I saw, it could be one of several different chambers.

I doubt .30-06 would work, but you can check really easily. According to teh intarwebs the iCL is based on .300 Winmag/.375 H&H which has a bigger base diameter and belted in the rim area. A .30-06 is considerably smaller.

From the web it looks like there were a few 30 caliber cartridges, based on a few different parents including the 30-06. The 30-06 version was the 30-06 ICL Caribou.

You'd really need to research the case and chamber specifications and verify them against one of you cases. Might also consider having a cast done of your chamber.

The ICL appears to be an improved cartridge, with some references to PO Ackley. Some of the Improved chambers will accept standard ammo. For instance, the 30-06 Ackley case is fire formed using starting with standard 30-06 ammo. Standard 30-06 shoots fine from the 30-06 Ackley chamber, and can be used as a lower velocity backup ammo.

A brief web search did not return any result indicating if standard 30-06 could be used in the 30-06-ICL chamber; that would take some research.

The ICL, like the Ackley Improved cartridges, are really for handloaders to take advantage of gains in velocities.

Pretty interesting I love wildcats. Looks like there are at least 7 different variations of 30 Cal ICL.

Do you want to save the rifle or the chamber? I would rebarrel it personally. But if you want to spend the time and money you can cast the chamber and have a set of custom dies made.

Apparently RCBS has the die dimensions and can make you a set. Also found this:
