Sources for used/non functioning bolt action receivers

Howdy folks!

I'm trying to create a cad model of a bolt action receiver and was wondering where one would look for used/non functioning actions (just the bare action, no barrels).

As for the legality, would I need to go through a background check etc even if I buy a non barrelled non functioning action?

The receiver IS the firearm so you will need to go through the same background check as if you were purchasing the complete gun.

You won't find used receivers cheap unless they are damaged because people USE them when they are not damaged.

Your best bet is to buy complete rifles.
Disassemble them to make your measurements.
Reassemble them and then sell them.

Why not copy a CAD drawing of, say, a R700 action? People used to mill them as 80% rifles, so there's gotta be a file out there somewhere.

I'm trying to digitize a magnum mauser or a mauser like action (CZ 550). Not really into Remingtons.

de-militarized Mausers are for the asking. Get a few that had different processes performed to de-militarize them and from a compilation you'll have everything you need.

Head to the collector sites, people there can point you to the right places. De-militarized Mausers are often sold to those who don't want or need a shootable example and don't want to pay a lot for a mantle piece.
