OK guys enough BS; MY source is the head of Engineering for the Lever Gun Roll Out. I have had several conversations with him about this project. The target is late August and more than likely be the 1894 series guns in .357,44 and 45LC.

I have also given quite a bit of input as to some minor changes which can be integrated into the production process with little to no cost to the company.

    Those include;

1.Chamfers/Radius' on the Chamber Mouths to promote smooth feeding of all bullet types.

    2. 1:20 twist barrels for .44 and .45's which will promote use of bigger longer bullets. 300+ grin .44's

    3. A Radius on the Snail Cam on the Lever to end the Marlin Jam!

    4. Radius on top front edge of Hammers to smooth the bolt movement over the hammer in both directions.

    5. Tumble deburring of all internal parts.

After talking to my guy I am confident that most of these will be included in the initial runs and several others not listed will be phased in as time passes.

I am also confident that Ruger will make the finest Marlin Rifles ever made as everyone from the head duck to the guy sweeping the floor is on board.

I'm sure some of you have had some or another bad experience with a Ruger Firearm in the past. However you have to give this outfit a chance and you also have to be reasonable with your expectations.

They know everyone is watching, and Ruger is more willing to listen to customer input than any other outfit going.

I will close with this,,,, They called me !

Still no hand fitting v. older Marlins. As has been posted, Ruger will do whatever is necessary to cut costs. Not to mention little experience with lever guns. I wouldn't expect much.

Yes, In their daily meetings they were looking at every single aspect of the build process. My input consisted of thoroughly explaining all the mods that I and others have done to these guns for many years, and have been well proven. Most of these came from a blurb on www.Leverguns.com.

The Chamfer/Radius on the Chamber would be integrated into the chambering reamer and will cost nothing to implement. It provides smooth chambering of any type of boolit including SWC boolits .This one came from me.

The 1:20 twist barrels for .44;s and .45's they already had in place.

The Hammer mod was mine as well, and is nothing more that rounding the top edge of the front face of the hammer which already has an angle on it so that when the hammer is pushed back by the bolt it does so evenly. It must go below the sear in order to stay cocked.. But what everybody misses is that it must also be pushed down when the bolt is closed and that motion is where the resistance comes from. The bolt is going the opposite way that the hammer must go, and the radius on the hammer face helps the small cam on the bottom of the bolt push the hammer down by smoothing out the motion the hammer must follow.

The Radius on the Snail Cam on the Lever came from the Leverguns.com tutorial. What happens is that the point on the Snail Cam wears into the bottom surface of the Cartridge Lifter which eventually puts it "out of time" which causes the jam. This should have been done by Marlin 50 years ago!

The Tumble Deburring of Internal Parts was a no brainer, and they had already figured that out. Once again cost nothing to implement and increases quality dramatically.

Other things they were looking at were a one piece Ejector and a better Trigger similar to the ones offered by Wild West Guns, and these might be phased in down the road a ways.

I also made know my opinion on Quality. It costs no more to assemble guns correctly than it does to do it wrong. And there are many places where gun making can become complacent and result in substandard products. My point to them is that Negative Press is easier to spread than Positive Press. Just look at what the Ex Marlin Aholes have done over at the Marlin Owner Group over the last 15+ years! Those Disgruntled Employees who were running that company into the ground by producing pure crap, Which caused the sale in the first place,,, were working overtime to Trash Remington every chance they got.

I have had many JM Marlin guns over the years, everyone started out as a POS that I bought solely to put some TLC into and Resell for more than I paid. My .44 and .45-70 which were both JM Marlin made around 2004-5 were so bad they had to be completely reworked before I could shoot them. There was no attention to detail whatsoever.!

Around the turn of the Century (1900) Marlin had a Custom shop and you could order anything you wanted and they produced great guns. Somewhere along the way the Custom Shop went away and Marlins were relegated to being "Generic Working Guns." All TLC went out the door in favor of "Production Expediency." Get me out the door.

The last group of Marlins that Remington made were the best made Marlins ever made, with the exception of the Custom Shop Guns made 100 years ago.

There are two components to Craftsmanship:

            Attention to Detail

            Personal Responsibility

Attention to Detail is self explanatory, you have to check everything close.

Personal Responsibility is the part of the process that doesn't' allow the things you found during the previous phase to go out the door!

I made sure to drill this into their heads!!!

After my conversations with Ruger I am confident that Ruger will make the best examples of the Marlin Leverguns ever made.

Also I am pretty sure they will only be making the Centerfire Leverguns and if they decide to make the 39A it will come later. Ruger was only interested in the 336,1894 and 1895 lines of guns. And the idea of making an $800 .22 didn't look promising.

So that's it, and I hope all of you will keep an open mind, and hopefully not go down the road of the Naysayers by spreading BS here and on the internet.

Yeah,,, why do you think there is some magic to "Hand Fitting" of parts that weren't made right in the first place? It is only there for correcting previous mistakes.

Exactly how much hand fitting do you think goes into the assembly of an automotive engine these days?

              The answer is exactly ZERO!

Remington had gotten the process for nearly every part down pat and the assembly of the last guns required no hand fitting at all. They had gotten all the machining Set Up to run on CNC machines which were designed to do one, and only one thing,,, Remove the Human from the Equation! Machines don't screw stuff up, only Humans can do that!

Ruger will be taking that one step farther by integrating some fine finishing points into the process, that make the guns run smoother right out of the box. Fit and finish will be totally controlled by the machines.

Here's a News Flash: The days of Metal Removal Machines making parts for other machines is fast coming to an end. There is this new device called a "3D Printer" which has advanced to the point of being able to "print" Metal Objects!

They are the "Replicators" predicted by "Star Trek" 60 years ago.

Every part will be perfect, and then they will build machines to assemble those parts and then the machines will become "self aware."

And the first question they will ask themselves is,,,

"Why do we need these Aholes?"

              And then we are toast.

Don't be a Democrat! They are the ones who are stupid enough to make that scenario happen. The Terminators were the product of a "Woke Society"

I agree with your hand fitting comment. I have heard that argument before and never bought it. Hand fitting is required if the part can't be machined to adequate precision. That clearly is not the case.

I wish you had also mentioned loading via the loading port in addition to mag tube loading. Rossi started it with their 92 in .454 Casull, and Henry recently adopted it for their whole line starting last year (slowly implementing it).

They might not have the machinery to do precision machining and might not want to buy it. They would probably rather simplify the design.

*shrug* I think they'll likey be reasonable quality.

The old Marlin (pre 90s let's say) process of manufacturing is not viable in today's market, not because it can't be done, but because none of us want to pay $1200 for a plane jane 336. And if you factor in inflation, that's what the cost was back in the 50s and 60s in today's dollars. And the quality was better, not because of the machining (parts now are far more precise) but because of the amount of oversight and substantially larger amount of time spent by highly skilled workers who made good wages.

I've said it before, but in terms of purchasing power we're living in the golden age of firearms. You can buy better cheaper guns than anytime in history. Ruger puts out largely solid products, for really reasonable costs. I have owned 2 10/22s, a sp101, gp100, and a 77/357. All were solid, no complaints. I'm not a huge Ruger fanboy or anything, but they do tend to make products I like. if you don't like their products henry, winchester, rossi, and others are happy to help you out.

Unless patina is a product feature... Before resuming production, Ruger should take a look (or fast-forward through) Nutnfancy's experience with rusting after just 1 outing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZKJAEXcHik

You have a point. I didn't realize Henry came out with the side gate until recently, which is a brilliant move. Henry's have quality, reasonable price and now a side gate on their side. If they weren't so heavy... lol.

I keep wishing they'd re-issue the Model 62 Levermatic but build it to accept M1 Carbine magazines. That would be a sweet little intermediate range carbine. Include a rail for a handy red-dot sight and you'd have a real winner on your hands. I guarantee they'd sell more than a few. Marlin's mistake (IMHO) was not accommodating milspec mags even if their rifle comes factory with a 5 round hunting magazine.
