    Slamfire1
My 30-06 load with a sufficiently long barrel will find best accuracy around 2850 fps. You would naturally get less velocity with a shorter barrel but still be above your 2650 threshold and exceed your accuracy criteria as well.

As to concrete bench weight I don't know the weight and don't carry one hunting either. I don't know the weight of a shooting stand and I don't know the weight of a shooting blind either. If I was hunting in a state that allowed them I would follow there traditions and methodology without bringing my scale.
I hunted whitetail in Canada from a manmade hut with a propane heater and a box lunch neither where weighed. I hunted roe deer in germany with a 16 gauge shotgun and made a 80 yard shot which is 30 yards further than most germans will shoot at night in snow. Nothing was weighed.
If the situation allows for a portable bench I use it as it's an aide to accuracy. If it doesn't I pack my rifle and use a sling as well. I have only used 5-7 hunting rifles under 10 pounds in 46 years of hunting.

I also use a pie pan as an accuracy guide so 1000+ yards is not a problem for me as the groups recorded where shot over 3 days at different times of the day for 30 shots.
My long-range deer rifles have more energy at the distance I am shooting than is listed by any of the hunting magazines list and in California we don't hunt whitetails.
I have shot alongside many F-Class shooters including those from the national team and most of there rifles shot extremely small groups.
I also think there rifles weigh around 22 pounds so they are too heavy for Benchrest shooting.

Interesting, my 6.5x284 that I shoot in 1,000 yard matches with the big Nightforce on top, weighs about 10.5 lbs. All my matches are shot with hunting weight rifles.

I don't shoot matches to win, I shoot matches to keep me in practice for hunting and to have fun. Matches used to be based on markmanship with the military rifles or hunting guns of the times and that's the way that I treat them.

I can buy or build anything that I want but entering the arms race at matches has no attraction for me. Shooting an 18 Lbs. gun with a $1,000 front rest will not make me a better shot in the field so I don't bother with it.

If your using a 10.5 pound gun in a 22 pound class your not competitive anyway.
You going to matches just for practice makes sense because the guys trying to win will be much heavier and for good reason.

        Champions use what works.

I think your 10.5 pound hunting rifle is also a poor choice.
We learned during the Savage Impulse thread that a hunting rifle weighing 8.8 pounds is too heavy. I was told by the owner of this website that I was trolling the thread because I posted proof that you can use a rifle heavier than 9 pounds.
I even pre-ordered a Savage Impulse Rifle and nobody posting on that thread did that other than myself. The rifle with rings base scope and sling i suspect to weigh around 10.5 pounds only to learn from others it won't work.

Thank God for all the wisdom posted here and hopefully i can get a refund?

As a shooter using a rifle similar in weight to Slamfire1 are you also getting 4.5 inch groups at 300 yards with your 6.5-284?
You mentioned 1000 yards do you know your group size?
Are you shooting gain twist barrels?

After discussion in a recent thread, I had looked up info on Hathcock's shooting with the Win70 before the switch to the Remington.

His rifle was checked out and found to have enough wear to barely be a 2moa rifle. His rifle was not particularly accurate, but he knew how to use it well.

Colt cap and ball revolvers all have gain twist as well. It's really obvious when you look down the barrel (should you find yourself doing that).

The industrial revolution saw a lot of wild styles of rifling, hex, square, even a heart shaped one...https://www.rct.uk/collection/61100/...irschbuumlchse

              My 6.5x284 has a Bartlein gain twist barrel 9.25 - 8".

My best 10 shot group at 1000 yard is 5.25" and my best match score is a 399-19X

5.25 inches for 10 shots at 1000 yards is a nice group!
                I tip my hat!
