Uberti vs Miroku? 1892 vs 1873?

Currently own a Taylor's Alaskan Takedown (Model 92 action). Used to own a slicked up Rossi '92 (shouldn't have sold it). Getting the itch to pick up another lever gun. I know the Miroku's are not 100% true to original, but aside from that... Are there other reasons to pick it over an Uberti? Between the '92 and '73, I'm leaning towards the '73 due to its historical significance (and that I haven't had one). Functionally, are there any mechanical disadvantages?

Finally, toying with the idea of purchasing the DIY action slicking kit from Steve's Guns for the Alaskan. I assume, for this purpose, it's fine to treat it like any other Model 92?

The 92 action is stronger if that is a concern. The 73s are very cool, though!

I just have 2 Rossi's, a .44 and a .45, along with a couple Henry rimfires, a Win 9422M and a couple of Win 94s...so no help on the Uberti versus Miroku question.

Chambering will be 357/38. If either manufacturer deem their product strong enough to be chambered as such, then durability shouldn't be an issue. Reliability and complexity is probably more of a factor, since any cleaning beyond the superficial requires full disassembly (unlike most modern firearms). I've yet to take either apart, so aside from what I can see on youtube, the intricacies of either is unknown to me.

I have a 1873 Beretta Renegade in .357 that is made by Uberti. It has a tuned action, 20" octagon barrel, shotgun-style buttstock and is one sweet shooter.

I have owned Uberti rifles and SAA revolvers, both top notch quality.

I don't own a Miroku, but my understanding is they make very nice rifles.

I own a few miroku guns, all fantastic quality. I would choose their 92' despite the tang safety. Uberti seems more popular, might be more mod friendly.

I have heard the Miroku examples are perhaps better than the originals. Being very familiar with Japanese tradition of master craftsmanship, I believe the claim. Italian craftsmanship is also highly regarded. But, they seem to be more dependent on what time of the year, week or day each sample is made.

Another reason to buy now if you can. Those miroku guns could say Portugal in a couple years. I use a Portugal sx3 for hunting, 3 seasons now, no complaints.

I had one, and I agree with the high quality part. But I sold it off because of the tang safety as well as the rebounding hammer. Tang safeties do not belong on a lever gun.

                I'd choose the Rossi.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

                  I have a Winchester 92 short rifle in 45lc. It's a beautiful gun.
If your bothered by the tang safety and rebounding hammer then I'd look elsewhere.

I have 5 Rossi 92s I don't recommend them because each one has something wrong with it and their customer service is terrible..

If you plan to feed your new gun a steady supply of magnum rounds then I stay away from the 73.

Hmm. Could you explain that a little further? I have a couple Italian guns, seem damn fine to me. So......

                      Why Portugal?

Tang safety and historical accuracy is not at all a concern. No matter what, it will never be an original Winchester. That isn't the goal. And as for the Rossi, been there done that. Production quality of a Rossi really doesn't even belong in the same conversation. Comparing the Rossi I had to my current Taylor's Chiappa, the Rossi is a $300 gun at best... not north of $600.

Tang safety and historical accuracy is of little concern. Did not have any function issues with my Rossi, but it was already warmed over by a pro smith when purchased new. She was not pretty. But she ran.

It's not a stereotype, but actual difference in culture and value system. Italians value their food, wine and leisure. All manufacturing shuts down for a couple months in the summer. Compared to our endless rat race, it's not a bad thing! But, imagine if your gun is made just before or was started before such breaks—when things might have been rushed or overlooked. It's still humans doing the work after all.

Japanese manufacturing, especially ones with 100+ years of continuous history, is a whole different animal. They are just very anal when it comes to work. Not just a job, but almost a religion.

I have Miroku 1873 Short Rifle. Nice gun. It sits in a sock in the back of my safe. Mulling over the idea of letting it go. My interests are now O/U shotguns.

I'd take the Japanese produced firearm any day of the week over the Uberti and even more so over the Rossi. I managed to wear out a Rossi 92 .357 over a 35 year period. I own two 92s now, fun carbines but not durable. The 44 broke one of the pins that moves the lock blocks into position about the 3rd time I took it out
