    Short Action Customs SAC

Just a shout out to SAC. Awhile back I started a thread about barrel vises.

I ended up getting the SAC barrel vise. Thanks to members on the forum for educating me on how to use and mount the vise.

Long story short, I brain-farted and over torqued the vise and it broke the top jaw at the hinge.

I contacted SAC, told them it was my fault.

Mark Gordon and Company (SAC) promptly sent me replacement parts for my vise!

    SAC are good guys.

FYI, I don't torque my barrels crazy tight. In reality, a quick "snap" of the action with a long arm wrench is enough. It will not back out or change headspace dramatically. Of course, a torque wrench is best if properly used

I torqued down the vise too tight, not the action to barrel. SAC's tutorial, i believe, Mark recommended 35ft/lb for their vise.

For bbl>action, i've read (non-Magnum) folks can get away with 40ft/lb. Although recommended is usually around 75-85ft/lb. And for magnums 100ft/lb.

There was a video of one fella who loosened and tightened up his AI with adjustable wrench and it shot fine.

          @MicronuT

The action is a American Rifle Company (ARC) Archimedes (Long Action)

          Caliber is 308.
          Cartridge chambered is 300PRC.

Note: The attached photo is just to show my vise setup.

I know I'm just curious about your project
I was looking at the archimedes as well.
I'm still confused as to which action to use for a 6.5 PRC.
            Are you familiar with it?

The c.o.a.l is something like 2.995 or something
Sounds like it has some magbox issues

I'm hearing it will have trouble in a short action magbox

If you're running the Archimedes, there shouldn't be a magwell/box? issue.

The issue is from factory Rem700 actions and I think some "clones".

The magwell is not long enough for the 2.955" COAL. The fix is a Wyatt's box and I think you have to mill out some of the feed ramp so the 2.955 length will feed.
***Or something like that. I'm running my 6.5PRC on a Nucleus SA so I didn't have this issue.

You'll also need 300WSM magazines without binder plate. Internal length for Accurate Mag 300wsm without binder plate is ~2.970"

I'm aware of the wizm mags. So this does indeed mean that most custom actions wont have feeding issues yes?

I havent ordered the archimedes yet, I'm just trying to get all the details out of the way. I'm assuming the archimedes will be ok running the 6.5 PRC in S/A?

What are your experiences with the 6.5? Is that 15/1000s forgiving enough for heavier pills?, I mean for all of your loads? Do u load heavier pills at longer oal?
