    Mauser action id?

My 92 year old father gave me his 30-06 dear rifle some time ago. I haven't shot it too much because it is expensive and not really fun to shoot, it kicks like a mule.

He is getting old and called me the other day to give me the background on the rifle. He said that he bought the action from an acquaintance in 1950. The story goes that this guy was in Germany at the end of WW2 and his patrol came across an armory and he stuffed a duffle bag full of Mauser actions (actions only) and brought them home. My father purchased the action and had it barreled in 30-06 and added a nice stock and had mounts put on the action for a scope.

It has a few legible markings on it. On the bottom plate 51389M and a matching number 51389M on the top with the following marking "wz.29" on the left side of the action. Is these anyway to find out more about the action?

Polish K98. Neat. Here's to your pop's and his colleagues' history.

My father knew it was a Mauser design based on the K98 but I bet he had no idea it was the polish version. Thanks for the links.its pretty cool history. Also gives it an 11 year window for its manufacture.
